In response to the dock tragedy at Marsh Landing on October 19, 2024, our Sapelo Island Gullah Geechee community has come together to heal, rebuild, and support one another.
Join us in providing immediate relief and aiding in economic development, ensuring long-term growth for Sapelo Island descendants.
What Is The Sapelo Strong Coalition?
The Sapelo Strong Coalition was formed as a partnership for immediate support
The Sapelo Strong Coalition is a coalition of five organizations that united to support the Sapelo Island community during the tragedy. The coalition—comprising the Allen Bailey Foundation, The Sapelo Project, Hog Hammock Community Foundation, Sapelo Island Cultural and Revitalization Society (SICARS), and Save Our Legacy Ourself united to address the immediate needs, while also facing the need to focus on long-term healing and recovery. The Sapelo Strong Coaliation is working directly with the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor to process all aid for the Marsh Landing Dock tragedy.
Sapelo Strong, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) to provide financial aid and resources aiding in the ongoing support required for everyone in our community.
EVENTS, NEWS & UPDATES FROM THE COMMUNITY:
Airstrip Field Trail Community Information and Feedback Session
Sapelo Island NERR Staff will be presenting on a proposal to create a new recreational loop trail around the Airstrip Field and new southern live oak restoration project. Reserve and DNR Staff would like to present on where the proposed project currently stands in the planning phase as well as give community members an opportunity to give their feedback, submit requests for amenities, etc.
The meeting will be held in person at the library, but community members can also call-in through Zoom.
